In her twenties, Ayane lives with her husband in a detached house with a garden, enjoying peaceful days. To the outside world, her life appears to be a perfect marriage, yet she secretly feels a quiet emptiness. Still, she keeps convincing herself, "I am satisfied," and carries on with daily life. Her world changes drastically following the death of Mr. Kobayashi, their marriage broker. Her husband, having co-signed Kobayashi's debts, becomes responsible for the repayment. Men soon arrive at the Asakura household to collect. Ayane is forcibly molested on the spot and made to submit against her will, even in front of her husband. For her, this marks the end of her former life.
