The human horses owned by mistresses are sometimes entered into competitive "human horse racing." These races begin with maiden races and progress through ranks such as G3, G2, and G1. Mistresses earn substantial prize money when their horses win. Drawn to its appeal, Queen Meian purchases two servants from a human horse auction and begins training them toward the goal of winning a G1 race. Human horses are expected to win races and generate prize money for their mistress; those who fail to win face disposal. In contrast, exceptional human horses are kept long-term in stables as breeding stallions, producing new generations of human horses.
