While Haruhana's works aren't necessarily to my taste, the quality of the direction and camera work exceeded expectations, significantly improving the series' shortcomings. Particularly in the first sex scene, the build-up with provocative hints of pregnancy, followed by being confined half-naked without access to emergency contraception while the dangerous time passes, and then being creampied again the next day—the seamless continuity between scenes was excellent. The scene at the beginning where the husband collapses to the floor as he sees off his wife suggests he knows she's being sold for sex. Yet in the middle and end, he continues to act innocently, as if oblivious—this lack of unity is jarring. Whether it's stupidity for not realizing his wife's sacrifices or cowardice for turning a blind eye while knowing the truth, I wish the work had chosen one clear interpretation. The ending also falls short of perfect because I wanted it to fully depict the wife reaching the point of desiring Oshima's child rather than her husband's. But the quality of the actress's performance and the sex scenes is very high, and personally, this is the first time the series has achieved a level of quality I find satisfying.
