Oshima ends up living with his son and daughter-in-law's household in Tokyo. His son "Tetsugaku's" wife "Sumire" is unfriendly and always has a sour face, so Oshima has long found her difficult to deal with. One day, "Tetsugaku" gets injured and is hospitalized. In the awkward life of just the two of them, Oshima, out of mischief, tells "Sumire" a not-so-funny joke: "Our son died at the hospital..."
