After being suddenly left by his girlfriend of five years, Kuroi leaves the city full of memories and throws himself into day labor jobs in an unfamiliar town. Waiting for him there was his boss, Futaba, a woman who is mannish and scolds him harshly. As he painfully realizes his own helplessness day after day, Kuroi falls asleep at the worksite after working late into the night. Futaba finds him and lets him stay overnight at her place. There, he learns that Futaba is a single mother raising her daughter on her own. Moved by her motherly kindness and attentiveness—traits she never shows on the job—Kuroi gradually finds himself drawn to Futaba.
