My relationship with my father is something I've only recently begun to understand. It's been nearly a year since my husband and I started living with him. During this time, my father has constantly gazed at me as if seeing in me both his late wife and himself. To him, I was no longer just a daughter, but someone like a second wife. Exposed to this gaze, I was forced to reexamine myself as a woman. My bond with my father has evolved beyond mere parent and child, forming a new kind of connection. Within this relationship, I can no longer remain simply a daughter. What my father desires is not a daughter, but another wife. And this kind of relationship continues even now.
